Conforming to Code
According to Section12-3-7 of the City of Odessa Code of Ordinances, any vehicle parked on any street within the city shall be parked parallel to the curb, and where a parking space is marked shall be wholly within the lines marked on the street for such parking space.
Additionally, Section 545.303(a) of the Texas Transportation Code states that an operator who stops or parks on a two-way roadway shall do so with the right-hand wheels of the vehicle parallel to and within 18 inches of the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway.
There are no exemptions to this law when parking in a Cul De Sac, so the above mention laws apply. We frequently see in Cul De Sacs that vehicles will pull in perpendicular to the roadway. By doing this, the vehicle is not parallel to and within 18 inches of the curb, which the law requires.
Parallel Parking
Parking parallel allows emergency vehicles and solid waste vehicles to turn around and will also allow us to better serve the community’s roll-carts on collection days. Due to the fact that vehicles have been parking incorrectly and preventing roll-carts from being serviced we ask that you please park parallel.
