Q: I have more than one child participating in Odessa youth sports. Am I going to have to pay for each

child?

A: No. It is mandatory for only one parent/guardian to participate in the training program. The

training certificate will be applicable to all of your children participating in Odessa youth sports.

Q: My child participates in more than one sport in Odessa. Do I have to pay for the training more than

once?

A: No. It is mandatory for only one parent/guardian to participate in the training program. The

training certificate is valid for one year and will be transferable to other family members participating in

Odessa youth sports.

Q: When does the SMART Parents Training expire?

A: The SMART Parents Training certificate is valid for one year

Q: Why is this program mandatory?

A: The program has been proven to create a positive and wholesome environment for children

participating in local youth sports. It is mandatory because the program has shown success only in

instances where a representative of each child participated in the program, not within a voluntary system.

Q: How can I participate if I don’t have a computer?

A: The online training system is compatible with smart phones, tablets and computers. If you are

not able to complete the training online you may attend a local training in Odessa. Local trainings will

take place at city parks. For more information, please contact your athletic association or the Odessa

Parks and Recreation Department at (432) 368-3548.

Q: How can Spanish-speakers participate?

A: The online training is offered in both English and Spanish. Bilingual aides will be available at

local trainings to provide assistance.

Q: How long is the certificate good for?

A: 1 year (January 1st- December 31st)
